“We tried the Portico 5032 with a Violet Design Flamingo Junior microphone.” “The combination sounded just fabulous with vocals and acoustic guitar. Everything sounded big, dynamical and detailed without the slightest hardness – exactly what one would expect from a real Neve preamp. The noise level was also extremely low. After we had pressed the Silk button, it stayed there. Our guess is that most users will do the same – it lifts the sound even more.
The equalizer too sounded extremely good. We could achieve more extreme sounds or just lower the acoustical problems of the recording room with the sweepable midrange and the highpass in the preamp.
It sounded very good no matter what setting we dialled in, it simply sounded expensive. This is an ideal mix between a pure and clean modern sound and an warm old one.”
“The Portico 5032 is without doubt a hit product. It is practical and easy to work with and has a superb sound. It has as we see it no problem to justify its pricetag. This unit can lift the project studio to new heights and, in contrast to mic preamps with a marked colour, it will work well with almost anything.”
