Imogen Heap’s Hideaway Studio at The Round House
The Round House is a truly remarkable building just outside London. Built in 1792, it’s considered an important local landmark for a number of reasons – one being that it was the first elliptical building in England, and went through a nearly complete rebuild after WWII – but what brought us there was the 5088 within The Hideaway Studio, located in the building’s underground level.
Originally set up by Imogen Heap in 2006 as a private facility where her two most recent albums were recorded, it was later turned into a destination studio. “Other musicians can come for a retreat and write and record songs here,” says manager Alexis Michallek. “Through the years, we’ve had the likes of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Mika and Amanda Palmer visit and stay.”
We visited the studio this spring and spoke with engineer Petra Randewijk about this unique residence, its beautiful surroundings, and its inspiring studio. We hope you enjoy.
