Hi-Five Studio: From 5059 to 5088

Ryan Rosmann, owner and Chief Engineer at Hi-Five Studio in Milwaukee, has been a Rupert Neve Designs user for quite some time. We did a profile on his studio back in 2018 when his main rig included 16 channels of Shelford 5052 Mic Pre + Inductor EQ and a 5059 Satellite for summing – it was a great hybrid tracking and mixing setup, but as Ryan’s needs grew, he decided to take the leap and upgrade to a 5088 console.

The summing was fantastic, and having the modules…it was a really great setup, I just needed more.

Here’s what Mike Picotte (Senior Sales Engineer, Sweetwater) recalls: “When we first talked about putting a console in at Hi-Five, we were talking about a 16 channel 5088. Ryan already owned sixteen of the 5052s, which got him really 50% of the way there or more – it was a big chunk of the of the console cost. The fact that it was modular, that the console can grow with you or you can get as little or as much as you need – you're not stuck into a certain configuration that you can never change.”

Here’s what the studio looked like before the console went in:

And here’s how it looks with his 32-channel 5088 console:

“Now I have my first 16 channels on the console always set up for drums. I have so much flexibility – I can go from tracking to mixing, doing a live band to a vocal session or acoustic guitar and piano or hip-hop just immediately.”

“I feel like my recordings are way better going in than they ever were, which makes mixing so much easier…the console is able to do everything I want without a lot of work…everything is just perfect. I couldn’t imagine having another desk.”
